Badge Grants
Admins can grant any badge to a publisher regardless of whether they've met the normal automatic milestone criteria. Badge grants allow recognition of contributions that happen outside the standard marketplace activity model — partnerships, ecosystem contributions, and special programs.
Grantable Badges
| Badge | Normal Criteria | When to Grant Manually |
|---|---|---|
| Ecosystem Partner | Admin-only (no automatic trigger) | Publisher has a formal partnership agreement with BizFirstGO or has contributed to platform integrations used by the broader ecosystem |
| Early Adopter | Admin-only (retroactive recognition) | Publisher joined the marketplace in the founding wave — retroactively recognized for helping establish the community |
| Special Contribution | Admin-only (discretionary) | Publisher made a significant contribution not captured by standard metrics — major bug reports, documentation contributions, beta testing leadership |
| First Publish | Automatic — first package published | Rarely needed; use if the automatic system failed to award it due to a system error |
| Community Helper | Automatic — 10 accepted answers | Use if the publisher actively helped the community outside the platform Q&A (e.g., in a forum migration, before Q&A tracking was implemented) |
| Certified Publisher | Automatic — first Certified certification | Rarely needed; use only if the certification was granted but badge was not awarded due to a system error |
Granting a Badge
How Badge Grants Appear to Publishers
When a badge is granted:
- The publisher receives an in-platform notification and email: "You've been awarded the [Badge Name] badge"
- The email includes the grant reason note provided by the admin
- The badge appears in the publisher's Achievements section on their profile with the grant date
- Admin-granted badges are visually identical to automatically earned badges — there is no distinction in how they appear on the profile
Revoking a Badge
Admin-granted badges can be revoked if they were issued in error or if the publisher's standing later disqualifies them from the recognition (e.g., an Ecosystem Partner badge for a publisher whose partnership was terminated).
To revoke a badge, select the publisher in Rewards Management, navigate to their badge list, and select "Revoke Badge" on the relevant badge. Revocation requires a reason note. The publisher is notified that the badge was removed and the reason why. Revocation is logged in the audit trail.
Badges earned through the automatic system (First Publish, 100 Installs, etc.) cannot be revoked through the badge management UI. They are permanent records of achievements at a point in time. Only admin-granted badges are eligible for revocation.
